Low cost Air Pollution Sensors

Call for Papers

Call for Papers for the special issue "Low-cost Air Pollution Sensors"

The submission deadline has been extended to April 1, 2019

The Editorial Office of Aerosol and Air Quality Research (AAQR) is issuing this call for papers for a special issue with the theme "Low-cost Air Pollution Sensors".

The specific areas related the theme for manuscript submission
Simpler and lower cost sensors for particulate and gaseous air pollution monitoring are now spreading rapidly for non-regulatory applications. The low-cost of these sensors makes them suitable for large scale networks and accessible to the general public. The small size of these sensors also suggests applications such as monitoring by bicycles, pedestrians and even flying drones. These sensors can be the building blocks for a sensor network to map the dynamics of air quality (e.g., probing hot spots of emissions), for evaluating the exposure of air pollutants in personal scale (e.g., mobile monitoring), or improving the temporal and spatial resolution of monitoring information (e.g., vertical or 3D UAV measurements). However at present there are few standards concerning data quality. In view of the rapid pace of developments in sensor technology, the journal Aerosol and Air Quality Research (AAQR) will host a Special Issue (SI) with the theme "Low-cost Air Pollution Sensors". Papers contributed from 10th International Aerosol Conference (IAC 2018) in St. Louis and other papers relevant to low-cost and portable sensors are welcome. All accepted papers will be collected in a single volume as a special issue. Some themes for this SI include, for example:

1. Methods to evaluate data quality from low cost air pollution sensors.
2. Utilization of sensors in monitoring networks.
3. Measurements of air pollution relevant to environmental justice issues.
4. Mobile applications of sensors (drones, bicycles, etc.).

AAQR focuses on aerosol and air quality and is indexed in SCI with the impact factor of 2.589 in 2017 JCR. AAQR is an open access journal supported by the publication fee charged to the corresponding author of the accepted papers. The Guidelines for Authors for submitting a manuscript can be found on the website of AAQR ( The deadline for manuscript submission is April 1, 2019. Manuscripts submitted after the deadline are considered only when the space is available. The targeted publication date is August 2019.
